What a successful bear season for our hometown guests, Mark Revolinski (pictured above with his son, Austin, and bear, shot on Sept. 2)and Andrew Cordray (below, with his bear, shot on August 29)! Way to go, you Belvidere/Garden Prairie, Illinois folk!
Good news on the construction front! Highway 599 is completed! All sections south of the Silver Dollar are now tarred and rocked and nice and smooth! Please continue to use caution, as the rock is not completely absorbed into the roadbed. Some parts are a bit 'slippery,' but otherwise smooth!
With September came our summer weather for the year. At least we got some summer finally, though. And now, with the end of September here, winter has arrived. That's the north for you! Skipping seasons entirely! The last two nights have frosted, which is very welcome for our archery moose hunters. The moose have been very quiet in the warm weather, and our hunters were getting frustrated. With the cold front the moose will hopefully start moving and come into rut! They'll keep calling....and hoping for a nice shot!
The cold front has also brought the grouse out of the bush and onto the roadways for improving grouse hunts. With the warm September, the blueberries were still aplenty, and the grouse remained out of sight. The last two days' cold weather has made our grouse hunters happy! Hooray for the cold! (I think!) :-)
