An open bear hunt and road construction
7/29/2009

Since my last posting the weather has been unseasonably cool and rainy. I'm beginning to think that our trip to Malta Lake Beach the end of June was our only glimpse of summer! As a matter of fact last night I made chili for dinner, as it sure felt like a fall evening!
There is construction going on on Highway 599 between the English River and the Silver Dollar with work to be continuing south to Ignace. The entire road is being torn off, regravelled, and repaved. Work is to continue through the month of August. One of our very fun groups of guests, the Fouts group (as picture above with their trout catch on an unusually sunny day last week), reported back after their trip home that their boat trailer had gotten extrememly chipped on the gravel in the constuction area. Thus, it is suggested that any of you due to come before the end of August travel EXTREMELY slow on the gravel or reroute through Sioux Lookout if you are heading in from the west. (Highway 72 to Sioux Lookout, bypass around Sioux Lookout to Highway 642 west to Silver Dollar--though this road is very hilly and winding, so travel slowly!) So sorry!
Also, we have had a bear hunt cancelled due to the loss of a job. If you are interested in a bear hunt, preferably the week of Aug. 22-29, please contact us ASAP to reserve your spot. Hunting season is anticipated to be a good one this year. Tons of bear are being spotted, and our baits are being hit regularly now.
Fishing is good, with all happy fishermen. The fish must be getting used to these crazy weather patterns, as we are!
